As the founder of both Cush Real Estate and Cush Design, David J. Higgins has been a licensed realtor since 2000. Passionate about both real estate and home design, David Higgins has been directly involved with over 800 real estate transactions during his career. His negotiation skills, attention to detail, and natural esthetic/design sensibilities quickly helped him become one of the top listing agents in the Oakland, Piedmont, and Berkeley communities. David’s unwillingness to compromise on achieving top dollar for his sellers has been proven through repeated record-setting sale prices combined with what could at times be called ‘extreme home makeovers’. David leads a highly specialized team of top designers and real estate agents in the representation of both sellers and buyers in the finer neighborhoods of Oakland, Piedmont, and Berkeley. David is consistently ranked as a top agent in the country and has achieved the ranking of #1 real estate agent in Oakland on a variety of annual lists.

In 2019, David Higgins took his culminated learnings and founded his boutique firm Cush Real Estate located on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. Selling fine homes since 2000, David has had the opportunity to work with clients of esteem as well as celebrities in the music and entertainment industry and the professional sports industry. David Higgins has received significant attention within the real estate community and beyond for his philanthropic work and donations offered back to the community, primarily focusing on education and the arts. With more than $500 million in closed sales, David consistently sells more than $50 million in residential real estate annually and holds an abundance of records in sales price as well as price per square foot.

Before attaining his BA in Political Science from Western Washington University, David Higgins served an internship with US Senator Slade Gordon. Then, upon graduation, he entered the business world focusing on product development, marketing, sales, and sales management, rapidly rising to top positions in several companies.

Having attained success in the corporate world he decided to pursue his longtime passion for real estate. He initially joined Prudential California Realty in the Piedmont California office where he rose to the rank of top 10 for production within his first year. As his success continued he found a fascination for understanding how to increase his effectiveness within the industry. With a goal of learning how to better serve his clients, David began the journey of working with top real estate coaches throughout the country and was soon recognized as one of the nation’s leading realtors. After holding the top sales position at the Oakland Remax office he was offered an ownership stake in the Oakland CA Keller Williams office. Here he learned the best practices for opening and running a real estate office from Gary Keller, founder of Keller Williams in Austin Texas. In 2009 David sold his equity share in Keller Williams and spent the following 10 years as a top agent at The Grubb Company where he received numerous awards and accolades for yearly production. Throughout David’s career, he and his team have had a specialized focus on the finer neighborhoods of Piedmont, Crocker Highlands, Rockridge, Upper Rockridge, Piedmont Pines, Oakmore, Glenview, Elmwood, Claremont, Berkeley Hills, and Hillcrest.

A proud father of three daughters, he donates a percent of his commission from local referrals to public schools and their PTA’s. He also supports Oakland Art Murmur, C510 Cycling Club, Oakland Girls’ Softball League, The Oakland Originals, and other worthy causes.
